Goodness Gracious alive!
Your new 5 pm show had the following to say: "People around the Southeast looking for accomodations in the WNC mountains don't care if it's Hendersonville, Franklin or Brevard, all they care about is the cost of a room. Transylvania County, unlike any other community in America (USA Toiday), has raised their occupancy tax." The two hosts continued to question the intellegence of raising "taxes." They then went on to explain how cities use these occupany taxes to pay for city or county services that cannot be covered by state controlled tax rules and cities were just trying to get as much money out of visitors as they could.
I for one, am offended by this uneducated, narrow minded, ill informed point of view. They should have at leat checked to see if Transylvania County's occupancy tax was higher than others in the area, NOT. They should have checked to see if Transylvania room rates would be higher than others in the area, NOT. In fact, the published Internet rates DO NOT include taxes and other fees anyway. In fact, a stay at Hampton Inn in Brevard, $63.00, is far less than Hendersonville, $78.20, or Asheville at $79.00. Holiday Inn Express in Brevard is $79.00, a bit higher than Ashville and Waynesville but less than Hendersonville, $80.00.
And for the last comment, 100% of the "bed tax" is used for promoting tourism in Transylvania County. Not one cent goes to paying for other county department expenses.
For a new radio show in Tranyslvania County, the hosts did a poor job of fact finding. Do the hosts really think a visitor will choose one destination over another for $.80 (eighty cents). That's rediculous. Get your facts straight before running off at the mouth about things you know nothing about. I saw a message in one of our fine shopping stores the other day that says, "If you can't be nice, leave." Think about it before you talk about things without background knowledge of the subject.
